Opposition Leader meets Lok Sabha Speaker

During Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa’s official visit to India, he met with Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today (4th) for highly valuable discussions focusing on strengthening parliamentary cooperation and sharing best practices related to parliamentary procedures.
The two leaders exchanged numerous ideas regarding enhancing institutional professionalism, strengthening legislative research, and promoting youth participation in parliament. They agreed to advance cooperation between the Sri Lankan Parliament and the Lok Sabha through initiatives such as structured exchanges, study tours, and capacity building.
The meeting emphasized both countries’ shared commitment to the values of democracy, transparency, and parliamentary integrity. Following these discussions, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa was invited on a tour of the new Speaker’s Office in the Lok Sabha complex, where he was able to observe state-of-the-art facilities and a completely digitalized, paperless parliamentary operations system a model of modernized legislative governance and efficiency.
