2025 Budget Proposal Tracking and Comparison

Budget Proposal Tracking and Comparison
Every government budget is a set of promises. Citizens have a right to know whether those promises are kept — and Parliament has a responsibility to find out. The Office of the Leader of the Opposition has established a systematic process for tracking the implementation of budget proposals throughout the year. Through our Sectoral Oversight Committee network, we examine each proposal, monitor its progress, and compile the findings into a formal review report. This report is published before the next budget debate, giving Parliament and the public a clear, evidence-based account of delivery against commitment. The 2025 Budget Review has been completed successfully. Our review of the 2026 Budget — covering 62 proposals — is currently underway, with the report to be published before the 2026 budget debate begins. This project is one of the most direct expressions of the office's oversight mandate: turning parliamentary scrutiny into a documented, public record that the government cannot ignore.
